THE HAPPY BIRTHDAY CLUB

Could you imagine being a child and not being able to celebrate your birthday?  Can you imagine being a parent and not being able to provide a party or gift for your child on their special day?  Children love celebrating their birthdays, and love birthday parties.  Because of financial hardships and this tough economy, many families are homeless and must live in rescue shelters, where simple things like "birthday parties" are impossible.

THE HAPPY BIRTHDAY CLUB is a motivated group of adults who love children and decided to form an organization to let children between the ages of 3 and 12, and living at the Rescue Mission in Roanoke VA, celebrate their birthdays.  The vision is to create a party at the shelter (for any child having a birthday that month) where the recipient(s) have their own cupcake and ice cream, balloons, a birthday card, an age appropriate gift, games and music.

We can only do this with your help.  We are asking anyone who has the means, or area businesses, to donate small items, and nothing in monetary form, unless it is preferred.

The following donated items are needed monthly for 3-8 children:

  • Paper products such as plates and cups
  • Birthday cards
  • 1 Liter sodas,  Kool-aid,  or juices
  • Cupcakes
  • Ice cream
  • Arts & Crafts items such as small 3 x 5 cardboard or plastic picture frames, or other
  • Childrens' books, magazines, coloring books and crayons
  • Gift cards for older children  (10-12 yr olds)

We understand that many of you already donate your time and money to charities.  If you are interested in participating your time to THE HAPPY BIRTHDAY CLUB, or would like to help out with any of the above items, you will truly make a child smile and help create a memory of a “special day.”  We appreciate your help! Please contact loricranwell@gmail.com for more information, or if you are able to volunteer time or donations.

At Roanoke Family, we believe that information should be free.

Cupcakes, too.
